Yes. You will require Enhanced Primary Care referrals from your regular GP addressed to The Low Carb Clinic in order to claim dietitian rebates from Medicare. Our doctors are unable to provide these referrals, as they must come from your regular GP.
In addition to being GPs who are fully qualified with the Royal Australia College of General Practitioners, our doctors have particular expertise in the medical use of low carb diets. Our doctors understand how low carb diets can reverse certain diseases such as diabetes, and what impact they can have on blood test results – things that are traditionally not taught in medical schools.
In addition to having standard dietitian training, and being accredited with the Dietitians’ Association of Australia as Accredited Practicing Dietitans, our dietitians have a wealth of practical experience on how to implement a low carb diet, which has traditionally not been taught in dietetic schools.
No. The dual doctor/dietitian appointment is appropriate if you have medical conditions requiring medication, if you need blood tests, if you have complex health problems or if you wish to see both doctor and dietitian. If you fit this category then your first appointment will be with both doctor and dietitian then reviews may be with both or single depending on your requirements. We also have stand alone dietitian appointments, suited to those wanting to adopt diet change for general health, weight loss, athletic performance or if you have a GP who is referring you for dietitian input.
